According to an ancient Orkney myth, shape shifters selkies inhabit the bodies of seals and shed their skin when they come out of the water to live among humans. In these stories, the selkies' skin is often found and hidden by local men, forcing them to marry their human captor. In our interpretation of this story, however, the selkie gains the upper hand
